Coronavirus has now killed more than 1 million people worldwide, marking yet another grim milestone | Tech News

The coronavirus that started in Wuhan, China in December of 2019 has now claimed more than one million precious lives, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. According to death stats, about half of the world’s total COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in only four countries — the United States, Brazil, India, and Mexico.

Looking back at how the coronavirus has changed society over the last nine months, we still don’t know the exact origin of the virus. At the beginning of the outbreak, China claimed the virus originated from Wuhan wet market.  However, many disputed the claim saying the virus originated in the lab.

Early this month, Chinese Virologist Dr. Li-Meng Yan claimed the Chinese Communist Party intentionally created and unleashed COVID19 upon the world as part of biological warfare. Dr. Li-Meng Yan said she believes China knew about the coronavirus well before it claimed it did. She says her supervisors also ignored research she was doing that she believes could have saved lives. Dr. Yan went on to say that COVID-19 is man-made and that the virus was created by the Chinese military.

To date, over 200,000 people have died from the virus in the United States alone. The virus was declared a pandemic more than six months ago. The virus has since swept through nearly every nation and has infected more than 33 million people along the way, according to Johns Hopkins.

“One million is a terrible number, and I think we need to reflect on that before we start considering a second million,” Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the World Health Organization’s health emergency program, told reporters on Friday.
