Between 100,000 to 200,000 Americans could die from the coronavirus pandemic, according to a sobering model from the Coronavirus Task Force. However, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that coronavirus mitigation measures such as social distancing and stay-at-home orders, are working.
Dr. Fauci also pointed that the projected fatality rate may be reduced by the mitigation measures. Dr. Blix admitted the chart with the large peak of deaths was heavily skewed by the number coming out of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The model was developed by six international and domestic modelers from Harvard, Columbia, from Northeastern and Imperial college in London. In their estimates, they had between 1.5 million and 2.2 million people in the u.s. succumbing to the virus without mitigation.
