Now there are not only multiple search engines but also sites that collect data for the potential candidate as much as for the hiring company.

So how do you use these new resources to supercharge your own job search?

Get help with your resume. Writing a resume used to be this mysterious endeavor that only the few professionals really knew how to master. People still loath the process, complaining that they don’t know where to start, what the companies are looking for and how to write something that a resume scanner will bother picking up on.

Build a professional platform. Regardless of your career field of choice, social media is a great way to connect with and market to the companies you want to work for. At this time, having a profile on LinkedIn is expected by most professions. But it’s not just a space for posting your experience. This can be a place to share your professional viewpoint on your field of choice by posting articles and joining professional groups. 

You can take it a step further and set up professional groups for discussion and networking on Facebook or develop a YouTube channel of your own that shows you practicing your craft or speaking on the topics connected to your job.

Balance risk with opportunity. Of course, you must be particular about what you share and how you display your skills and expertise. But don’t use that as an excuse to keep you from putting yourself out there. A rule of thumb is to post in a way that shows an authentic version of what anyone might experience when working with you. This way, if it causes them to want to interview or hire you, chances are, it will be a good fit. If they pass on you from what they see, you probably weren’t going to get to really bring your true self to the job. This can also help you offset any challenges you have interviewing in person.
